Ayurveda
The contribution of Kerala to the theory and practice of Ayurveda is significant. There are number of works in Malyalam which deals with the ayurvedic system of medical healing. Sarvanga Chikitsa Ratnam, Vaidya Manorama, Yogamruta, Vaidyamanjari are some of the important among these works.
In addition to these works there are number of commentaries on Sanskrit Ayurvedic works like Ashtangahridaya, susruta Samhita and Charaka Samhita. The general practitioners of Kerala following essentially Ashtangahridaya school of Ayurveda. The Ayurveda system has made admirable advancement on the practical side.
The Panchakarama Treatment has been restored to efficiently by the Ayurvedic Physicians of Kerala from early days. In Dhara, Pizhichil, Navarakkizhi, Uzhichil and Sirovasti the Kerala physicians stand unique. Kerala has also been well-known for its rare medicinal herbs and flora and it has been supplying unrefined drugs to all parts of the world.
